The Galleria dell’Accademia, also known as the Accademia Gallery, was founded by Grand Duke Peter Leopold in 1748 to promote the study and practice of art. Today, it is one of Florence’s most visited museums, second only to the Uffizi Gallery. Here, you can admire the breathtaking statue of David and the Tree of Life painting, along with other masterpieces.

Hall of-The-Colossus

Hall of The Colossus

The first gallery you encounter upon entering the museum is called the hall of The Colossus. It obtained this name in the 19th century when it housed a plaster-cast model of the ancient statue known as the Dioscuri of Montecavallo. Nowadays, the true highlight of this gallery is Giambologna's impressive sculpture, "Rape of the Sabines", which is accompanied by artworks from Renaissance masters such as Perugino and Botticelli.

The Tribune provides a stunning backdrop to admire the masterpiece from all perspectives, with its domed ceiling and marble walls.

Gipsoteca-Bartolini-accademia

Gipsoteca Bartolini

The Gipsoteca Bartolini is a hall in the Accademia Gallery that displays a curated collection of 19th-century plaster casts. These casts were created by Lorenzo Bartolini, a highly talented artist of his time, as well as his student Luigi Pampaloni. Additionally, the hall houses a collection of paintings and sculptures that were awarded by the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence.

Giotteschi Room

The Giotteschi Room is a treasure trove of artworks by Giotto and his students, known as the Giotteschi. The room showcases six works by Giotto, which include four panels from the Stefaneschi Altarpiece and the Madonna and Child Enthroned. The remaining artworks in the room were created by artists who embraced Giotto's philosophy of incorporating nature into their art.

Orcagna-room

Orcagna’s Room

The Orcagna's Room is the third and final chamber in the series that showcases paintings from Florence's Gothic period. It features the works of four brothers: Andrea (nicknamed "Orcagna," meaning "archangel"), Nardo, Matteo, and Jacopo di Cione. Many of their creations are altarpieces. One notable piece is Jacopo di Cione's *Coronation of the Virgin*, which was commissioned by the magistrates of the Mint.
