We start with the departure from the passengers hotels in the city of Rio de Janeiro to begin our journey to the imperial city of Petropolis, which is located in the mountainous part of the state, about 1 hour away. It is known as the Imperial City, because in monarchical times, it was chosen to be the summer residence of the Emperor of Brazil, Dom Pedro II.
We will visit the Imperial Museum, where visitors will find a variety of historical documents and pieces of great importance to the country's history, as the scepter and the crown of the emperor, the imperial jewels and priceless art works that belonged to the royal family.
You will also visit the Crystal Palace, that was built in France, as a pre-assembled iron cast, requested for Count D'Eu and Princess Isabel. Today it is used for concerts and theatrical plays. We continue to the Cathedral San Pedro de Alcantara, of Neo-Gothic French style and built around 1884. There lies the remains of Don Pedro II, Dona Teresa Cristina, the Count D'Eu and the Princess Isabel. At last, we will visit the former residence of Santos Dumont, a famous Brazilian aviator. During the tour there will be a stop for lunch (not included)
Finally, we will return to the hotels in Rio de Janeiro, ending the tour.
