Join this adventure that will take you from Oaxaca to discover all its hidden places in a four-day tour. Get in touch with the abundant natural environment and culture of Oaxaca: natural beauties such as Sierra Norte, the Tule tree, the archaeological site of Mitla, the production of handmade textiles in Teotitlán, and the incredible petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua.
TOUR HIGHLIGHTS
Cuajimoloyas: sheltered beneath 3200m-high Yaa-Cuetzi (site of a popular zip line), this is the largest and most accessible village, located on a paved road and a regular bus route.
Latuvi: a quiet lightly developed village in the heart of the mountains known for its spectacular views and its position as a way station on the old Camino Real trail.
Amatlan: the most northerly village in the area; visit the remains of old gold mines and colonial mining haciendas, and do a spot of rappelling in the mines.
Hierve el Agua: a series of spectacularly sited mineral springs and rock formations 65km southeast of Oaxaca and 35km beyond Tlacolula.
Mitla archaeological site: One of the most important pre-Hispanic areas in Mexico. It is the second most important ceremonial site in the Oaxaca territory after Monte Alban.

Please note
- Day 1: you will be picked up from your hotel in Oaxaca, at 03:00 pm (we kindly ask you to be at the lobby at least 15 minutes earlier). With a supplement, a Pre/Post extension and transfer in/out from/to the airport is available.
- Age range: from 18 years to 60 years. A Good health condition is required, in order to enjoy the activities in the itinerary
- Baggage allowance: one hiking backpack. In case of any extra suitcases, or if you do not wish to carry your luggage during hiking, an optional extra needs to be purchased in advance
- Guide: tours in English and Spanish will be combined in our vehicles for seat-in-coach itineraries. The local guide will speak both. The guide does not necessarily be accommodated in the same hotel as group/guests
- We reserve the right to change itineraries and activities due to weather conditions, technical problems or security reasons
- Early check-in, late check-out, connecting or adjoining rooms in the hotel are subject to availability and not guaranteed
- Please note that in the absence of rooms with 3 beds in Mexico, triple occupancy simply refers to the amount of pax, since triple rooms feature 2 beds only
- No refund for unused services. Splitting of the package is not allowed
What do I need to bring?
From May to November: Warm, waterproof jackets, pants and boots are suggested (rainy months). From December to April: Warm jackets and pants, waterproof boots are suggested (cold months). Sun protection, sunglasses, a hat and mosquito repellent can be very useful during your stay.

Cancellation policy

Day 1 : OAXACA – YAA CUETZI – CUAJIMOLOYAS (58km – 1.50hr)
The tour bus will collect you from your hotel in Oaxaca, at 03:00 pm, to depart to Sierra Norte (We kindly ask you to be at the lobby at least 15 minutes earlier). Upon arrival around 05:00 pm, the first activity will be a short walk (1.5km) to Yaa-cuetzi viewpoint, perfect to adapt yourself to the height of the region and to admire the breath-taking views from the top. Then the tour will continue towards the Cuajimoloyas community, to presence the sunset before check-in at the ecotourism cabin centre. Settle in and get ready to join the other guests at the dining hall to enjoy dinner. Pack your essentials for the next day and have a nice rest before beginning this adventure. In order to enjoy the hiking adventure without carrying your hiking backpack, we strongly suggest you add the supplement for the luggage transportation (upon additional cost).

Day 2 : CUAJIMOLOYAS – LATUVI (16km hike – 6hr)
Have an early breakfast and get ready for the hike to Latuvi. We do recommend wearing light and comfortable clothing and stretching before the activity. You will hike 16 km on an ancient trail that goes through the mountain called ‘La Hoja Enrollada’, for around 6 hours. On the way, you will admire pine-oak forests, edible and toxic fungi different types of wild flowers bromeliads, cacti and orchids. At around noon, you will stop for lunch at ‘Cara de Leon’ (included), where is a trout farm. Shortly after, a member of the community will show you about the process of making pulque and tepache, you will taste both types of pulque. In the afternoon, you will arrive in Latuvi to check-in at the ecotourism cabin centre and settle in before enjoying dinner with other guests. Prepare your essentials for the next day and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Day 3 : LATUVI – AMATLAN – OAXACA (14km hike – 5hr)
Charge your batteries with an early morning breakfast, and prepare yourself for the hike to the Amatlan Community. We do recommend wearing light and comfortable clothing and stretching before the activity. This day you will hike 14km on a trail called ‘Camino Real’, which used to be a part of a pre-Hispanic trade route that connected the central valleys with the Gulf of Mexico. On the way, you will walk aside from a river and sight several types of fungi, flowers and typical plants that belong to oak forests. Upon arrival to Amatlan, stop for lunch at San Miguel de Amatlan Ecotouristic Center (included). After this tasty meal, hop on the bus to Oaxaca. In the evening, you can ask your hotel reception for restaurant recommendations.

Day 4 : OAXACA – TULE – TEOTITLAN – HIERVE EL AGUA – MITLA – OAXACA (140km – 4hr)
Wake up to one last breakfast before being collected from the hotel in the early morning. The first stop will be in Tule, to visit its famous tree, one of the widest in the world. Immediately afterwards, you will go to Teotitlán del Valle, known for its wool rugs made with natural ingredients, such as insects, flowers and ashes. Later you will witness the petrified waterfalls of ‘Hierve el Agua’, natural rock formations that resembles cascades of water. In the early afternoon, you will stop for lunch at a local restaurant (included). Once you have enjoyed this delicious meal, you will visit a Mezcal factory, where you will learn about the making process and enjoy a tasting of up to 53 different types of mescal (included). At last, you will also visit the pre-Hispanic city of Mitla, called ‘The City of the Dead’. The tour bus will finally return to Oaxaca City at around 07:00 pm, from here you may continue with your travel arrangements.
Day 5 : OAXACA
Breakfast at the hotel. Consider the check out at 12:00 hrs. You can consider the transfer to Oaxaca airport with an extra supplement .
