Join this incredible seven-day tour to witness one of the most amazing natural events in Mexico: the Monarch butterfly migration. These butterflies have made a very long journey to escape the harsh North American winters, to take refuge in the beautiful Oyamel forests.

What do I need to bring?
Comfortable clothing and shoes is the most suitable for travelling in Mexico. However, the climate in Mexico City and Valle de Bravo can be cold, especially in winter; we recommend bringing warm clothes, a raincoat and umbrella. Sun protection, sunglasses, a hat and mosquito repellent can be very useful during your stay.

Day 1 : ARRIVAL MEXICO CITY
Upon arrival at Mexico City International Airport, you will be met by a professional naturalist guide, who will give you essential information about the tour and the activities that will be part of the trip. You will be then transferred to the hotel, where you can prepare your essentials for the next day.
Overnight in Mexico City.
Day 2 : MEXICO CITY – VALLE DE BRAVO (142km – 3 hr)
In the morning, wake up to an early breakfast at the hotel, before a safety briefing with your guide. You will visit the Museum of Anthropology and History, one of the best and most extensive archaeological museums in the world, an enclosure that houses a vast collection of artefacts in 23 magnificent exhibition halls. Free time for lunch at the Museum’s restaurant (own expense). We know that a few hours are not enough in the Museum, but we must continue the adventure to Valle de Bravo, a magical town surrounded by mountains and thick forests; a destination that is considered a jewel due to its excellent hotels, restaurants, equestrian club, golf courses, etc. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the hotel, for check-in.

Day 3 : VALLE DE BRAVO – PIEDRA HERRADA SANCTUARY – VALLE DE BRAVO (63km – 2 hr)
Charge your batteries with breakfast at the hotel and then head out to Piedra Herrada Sanctuary, located on the slopes of the Nevado de Toluca mount (22 kilometres southwest from Toluca city), surrounded by high and imposing mountains that exceed 3 thousand meters above sea level, making it the perfect place for Monarch Butterflies. To begin the adventure, we will ride beautiful horses that will take us most of the way; Later we will walk enjoying the vegetation and nature around us until we reach the fantastic place where the butterflies are. Be a part of the ecotourism movement in Mexico, respecting nature and learning about Sustainability. After a day full of magic and adventure, return to the hotel.

Day 4 : VALLE DE BRAVO – THE CAPULIN SANCTUARY – VALLE DE BRAVO (168km – 4 hr)
Indulge in a delicious breakfast at your hotel before departing to the Capulín Sanctuary, nestled in a semi-flat valley known as The Three Governors, located at 80 km west of the city of Toluca, where you can see the largest and most beautiful colony in the monarch region. Thanks to its location, the place offers beautiful views of the forested mountains and a huge diversity of flora and fauna, ideal for nature lovers. The journey to the sanctuary will be on foot (2.5hr approx.) to Cerro Pelón, where we will arrive at the place chosen by the butterfly to hibernate from November to March. After a day full of nature, we return to the hotel.

Day 5 : VALLE DE BRAVO
Enjoy a delightful breakfast at your hotel. Your final full day is free for the taking: enjoy the area of Valle de Bravo. Declared “Magic Town” by the Mexican government in 2005, Valle de Bravo is a beautiful town with cobbled streets and adobe houses with red tiles, which offers the traveller beautiful restaurants and typical craft shops. Walking through its alleys is a rewarding experience, with the view of the lake and its wooded mountains. The valley offers all kinds of activities: boat rides, yachts or jet skis, motorcycling, paragliding or hang gliding, horse riding, painting exhibitions, international film shows, and culinary festivals (own expense).

Day 6 : VALLE DE BRAVO – MEXICO CITY (139 km – 3 hrs)
Have breakfast at the hotel and take your time to relax during the morning and say goodbye to the beautiful Valle de Bravo. Return to Mexico City in the afternoon, to check-in at the hotel and rest before returning home.

Day 7 : MEXICO CITY
After one last breakfast at your hotel, bid farewell to Mexico City as you hop onto a comfortable transfer to Mexico City International Airport, where you will catch your flight to your following destination. We hope the memories of this trip will stay with you for a lifetime – have a safe journey!
